There is a product called Blue Shield you can get it at a local bike shop or Dennis Kirk (part 31-258) $21.95 It's a little messy and you have to take an extra day or so fooling with this before you put the pipe on. Basically you block off rear of pipe where packing is and pour this stuff in and turn it so it coats the interior. Bake the muffler in the oven at a low temp. and re-do the process again. I did mine, and the chrome on the pipe after many hundred miles has not discolored at all. I would also suggest that when you add the SuperTrapp or similar you might want to look at using exhaust sealant tape inside the joint to prevent any leaks. (Dennis Kirk (14-700)) Good luck.
